How to Fix Discord Audio Crackling & Robot Voice Issues

July 14, 2026 5 min read

There is nothing worse than listening to your favorite track only for the audio to sound robotic, crackly, or laggy. If Anya sounds distorted in your voice channel, the issue is almost always related to network latency or Discord voice region configurations. Here is how to fix it.

Diagnosing Packet Loss & Discord Ping

To verify what is causing the crackle, click on the green "Voice Connected" indicator in the bottom-left of your Discord client. This opens the Connection Info graph.

If your ping is above 150ms or you see "Packet Loss" greater than 1-2%, Discord is dropping audio data packets before they reach your local speaker. This causes the classic "robot voice" effect.

Fixing Regional Routing Mismatches

If the ping is high, the easiest solution is to change the voice channel region. Discord administrators can edit channel settings and set the voice region to a closer region. This forces Anya's Lavalink nodes and your Discord client to reconnect to a closer server node, fixing the lag.
